John A. Rodriguez
Biography
Composer and performance artist Johnny Rodriguez received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Theory/Composition from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1987 where he was a student of Dr. Reed Holmes. He later attended Bowling Green State University (Ohio) where he received a Master's Degree in Music Composition with an emphasis on computer music and graphics. His primary teachers here were Dr. Burton Beerman, Dr. Marilyn Schrude and Dr. Donald Wilson.
He has formed and performed with many experimental music groups such as PULSE Ensemble (San Antonio), Snake Farm (Ohio) and Daddy Monkey (San Antonio). PULSE Ensemble released a number of albums, and unreleased Snake Farm recordings received radio airplay.
Mr. Rodriguez' music is influenced by Native American, Mexican, Indonesian and African cultures as well as classical, jazz, rock and new age music. He has appeared as a performance artist (Johnny Rod) and as a collaborator with dancers, poets, visual artists and composers in various parts of the United States.
