Biography
California trio Night School blend woozy, lo-fi guitar pop with the sweet summer sounds of classic '60s girl groups, garage, and early doo wop. Formed in Oakland in 2013 by Alexandra Morte and Baylie Arin, the two friends began working as a duo, recording their fuzzy debut EP, Heart Beat, for Georgia-based indie Graveface Records. With influences ranging from Cocteau Twins to the Shirelles, Night School's sound is a gentle collision of dreamy textures and sunny innocence. Carousel, a split EP with labelmates Dott, preceded Heart Beat's October 2014 release, as did the arrival of bassist Cheyenne Avant to complete the band's lineup. Their full-length debut, Blush, was released in June 2016 and added '90s fuzz-pop tones to their mix. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
