Clyde Brown
Biography
Clyde Brown was a trombonist, based on the west coast, who performed and recorded with big bands such as that of Stan Kenton and Les Brown's Band of Renown from the '40s through the '60s. He had the technique and stamina to take on the ambitious music of the former group, judging from his inclusion on a web site devoted to "favorite trombonists from the Stan Kenton band." One thrill of watching Kenton's Innovations Orchestra onstage was wondering whether Brown would be able to wield his bass trombone without smacking any of the other section players in the forehead or shoulders, but this intrique may not translate to the digital format. Lounge lizards may come across Brown's name on '50s pop such as Dean Martin, that is if their eyes are not too blurry to read the credits. He is no relation to the soul singer of the same name. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
