Biography
One of the weirdest things about Duran Duran is that every one of its members became hard rockers after beginning their solo careers. John Taylor, of course, is no exception to the rule -- in fact, he helped invent it. When Duran Duran was on hiatus during 1985, he formed the Power Station with Robert Palmer, and that slick arena-rock project quickly became a success. After Taylor returned to the fold, it appeared that he was ready to leave the band again in the early '90s, but the group had an unexpected hit early the following year with "Ordinary World," and he stuck around for another two albums and one tour before departing in 1996 to form Neurotic Outsiders with former Sex Pistol Steve Jones. The following year, he released his first solo album, Feelings Are Good Other Lies. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
