Biography
An excellent tenor saxophonist with a sound of his own, Mike Murley has been an important force in Canadian jazz since the early '80s. He has recorded as a sideman with Time Warp, the Shuffle Demons, Brian Dickinson, Barry Elmes, and Kevin Dean (among others), and led dates of his own for Unity and Counterpoint. Mike Murley has played and recorded with such name musicians as Kenny Wheeler, Randy Brecker, and John Abercrombie. In 1988 (the year he spent in New York), Murley played often with Jack McDuff, but throughout his career, most of his work has taken place in Canada, where he has become an increasingly influential figure. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
