Biography
An important English composer in the neo-romantic style who excelled in large-scale vocal and instrumental forms and, though incorporating dissonance, operated within a largely tonal framework. Not adverse to unusual effects, he interjected several instances of "heavy glottal aspiration" in his fourth symphony. ~ Mary K. Scanlan, Rovi
