A Los Angeles-based boy band assembled by Island Records, Citizen Four took advantage of a perceived void left by the hiatus of English megastars One Direction. The founding lineup of Iowa brothers Carson and Conner Boatman and New Jersey natives Austin Percario and X Factor finalist Josh Levi debuted their yearning dance-pop with "Cold" and "Mercy," both in the second half of 2016. After two more singles, in August 2017 the band announced they were amicably parting ways with Levi, who was replaced by America’s Best Dance Crew alum Mikey Fusco. Just a few weeks later, "Want You Back" peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
