Biography
A cellist and composer from the U.K., Jo Quail uses looping techniques and other pedal effects to create atmospheric classical crossover works. Studying music from a very young age, she earned an undergraduate degree in performance from the University of Leeds. Quail made her solo recording debut with the self-released From the Sea in 2011. Caldera followed in 2014, with Five Incantations coming out in 2016. All the while performing regularly throughout the E.U. and Australia, she also released stand-alone works such as This Path with Grace, a four-movement piece for electric cello, orchestra, and choir. Quail's label debut, Rosebud, was a collaboration with experimental musicians Eraldo Bernocchi and F.M. Einheit, who covered instruments such as baritone guitars, metals, power tools, and electronics. It arrived on RareNoise Records in 2018. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
