Growing up with ambitions of soccer glory, it wasn't long before Darkoo realized her potential in the music world: after honing her vocal skills through her school years, the MC released her debut single, "Gas Station," at just 16. Centered around sultry stories and deep-bodied vocals, Darkoo merged Afroswing, Afrobeats, and U.K. rap into a swinging, catchy style, and soon cultivated a strong domestic fan base with subsequent tracks like "Juice" and "Rover." In 2019, she had her breakout moment with hit single "Gangsta." Peaking at number 22 on the U.K. charts, the One Acen collaboration became a playlist staple with its earthy melodies, charismatic delivery, and laid-back production.
