Biography
In 2013, British choir master Gareth Malone decided to update the classic choir genre by putting together a contemporary version of a choral group. After searching the U.K. for the best talent he could find, Malone recruited 16 members aged 18 to 27. Entering the studio with acclaimed producer David Kosten (Bat for Lashes, Everything Everything) the choir took on a selection of contemporary pop hits, ranging from Alicia Keys' "Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart" to Fleet Foxes' "White Winter Hymnal." The resulting album, Voices, was released at the end of the year, placing at number 23 in the U.K. album charts. The following year, the choir took the album on the road across the U.K. In 2016, Malone returned to his Voices project to record the holiday album A Great British Christmas. Taking on a selection of Christmas standards as well as modern pop classics, the album saw Voices joined by a selection of community choirs and bands from across the British Isles. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
