Biography
John Parr is a Grammy-nominated English singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who hit it big in the mid-'80s with a pair of chart-topping singles. Parr's self-titled 1984 debut spawned a modest hit with "Naughty Naughty," a track that possessed a rock edge but managed to be melodic at the same time (almost identical to the same formula that such other '80s rock bands as Bon Jovi and Poison would soon ride to the top of the charts). But Parr's biggest hit was just around the corner -- the David Foster-produced "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)," the theme song from the 1985 movie St. Elmo's Fire (which starred such '80s heartthrobs as Rob Lowe and Emilio Estevez). During that time Parr also contributed songs to other films, including Three Men and a Baby, Near Dark, and the Running Man. In 2011 Parr reworked the lyrics to his biggest hit and released the NFL quarterback-inspired parody "Tim Tebow's Fire," which earned over a million views when it was uploaded to video-sharing sites. A year later he released The Mission, an album with proceeds going to the USO, USA Cares, and other charities that help military families. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi
