Biography
Capitalizing on and in turn bolstering a seminal St. Paul, MN, underground scene, Triangle's genesis came in 1998 when Susan Lindell and Brian Tester began toying with the idea of assembling an electronic pop band. When Lindell's old friend and like-minded electronic experimenter Amanda Warner transferred to St. Paul's Macalester College from Portland, OR, later that year, the pair invited her to join the lineup, completing Triangle's initial incarnation. The band released its homemade, self-titled four-song debut EP in the spring of 1999 alongside bows from other St. Paul-based soon-to-be-luminaries the Selby Tigers and Sean Na Na. The three groups helped to define the burgeoning and diverse personality of a long dormant St. Paul music scene, making an important distinction between their city and its long-rivaled big brother across the river, Minneapolis. Triangle was marked by the band's fondness for odd time signatures and Tester and Warner's immediately identifiable harmonies. Catchy and fresh, the disc caught the ears of college radio taste-makers and was soon a staple on the Twin Cities airwaves; the radio exposure, along with the band's groovy tongue-in-cheek live show, made them a hot ticket. Following a lifelong dream, Lindell left the band in 1999 to join the touring musical +The Buddy Holly Story as a guitar tech, leaving Warner and Tester to carry the Triangle torch as a duo. 2000 saw the release of their Peek Meeter EP, which further documented and solidified Triangle's synthesizer-informed brand of quirky, upbeat pop, and also brought the band to the attention of the Philadelphia based label, File 13 Records, who released Triangle's first full-length CD in the autumn of 2001. ~ Bryan Carroll, Rovi
