Bobby Dick
Biography
Northern New York State has been enlivened by the music of bass player Bobby Dick and his Glens Falls-based band, Bobby Dick and the Sundowners for more than four decades. Billing themselves as "the cover band's cover band," Dick and the group continue to serve a high-energy mix of reworked classics by Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Bob Marley and Frank Sinatra and modern dance tunes by Creed, Lenny Kravitz, Foo Fighters and Sugar Ray.
Dick formed Bobby Dick and the Sundowners, in 1962, to perform at CYO dances and high school proms. The band's original lineup -- Jimmy Wilcox on vocals and drums, Ed Placidi on lead guitar and Scott Price on lead guitar and vocals -- has remained intact.
While they've mostly performed at parties and small functions, Bobby Dick And the Sundowners have played some memorable gigs. They toured with Dion And The Belmonts, in the early-1960s, and opened shows for the Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, Tina Turner, Jimi Hendrix and the Monkees. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
