Biography
Alcides Dias Lopes was a famous sambista of the Portela samba school. His biggest hit, Vivo Isolado do Mundo, was written in 1947 and was recorded by Candeia. Other expressive compositions of his (in partnership with Monarco) were Enganadora and Amor de Malandro (both recorded by João Nogueira), Você Pensa Que Eu Me Apaixonei (recorded by Roberto Ribeiro), and Se Eu Soubesse Vem Depois (recorded by Beth Carvalho). Several other compositions by Lopes with illustrious partners like Nelson Cavaquinho remain unpublished. Never having had the opportunity of recording as a solo artist, his only recordings were as a duet with Ivone Lara in the songs Quando a Maré (Antônio Caetano) and Já Chegou Quem Faltava (Nilson Gonçalves), which were included on her album Samba, Minha Verdade, Minha Raiz. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
