Papernut Cambridge
Biography
After a storied career that included long stints with Death in Vegas and Thrashing Doves, guitarist/songwriter/producer Ian Button began assembling the highly conceptual collective band Papernut Cambridge in the early 2010s, taking inspiration from a particularly vivid dream he had decades earlier about a colorful pop band. Acting as the center of the group, Button breathed life into his compositions with the help of dozens of musician friends, channeling the swagger of '70s glam rock as well as the melodic songcraft of '90s Brit-pop heroes like Supergrass and Blur. The collective's first album, Cambridge Nutflake, arrived in 2013 on the Gare du Nord label. Ever active in the studio, Button kept up a prolific release schedule, with new albums arriving annually amid various singles and lesser releases for the next several years. Among these were 2014's critically lauded There's No Underground, 2015's Nutlets 1967-80, and a 2016 collaborative 7" with Darren Hayman. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
