Biography
Though their present show-biz personas (Martin as a boozy crooner, Lewis as an obnoxious telethon host) seem miles apart, at one time Martin Lewis were arguably the last great comedy team to exist. Their television, nightclub, and movie appearances were unparalleled successes, making them youth heroes and the hottest act in the country. Martin made the perfect foil for Lewis's hyperactive antics, and they worked as a well-oiled machine for almost a decade. But soon Martin tired of his diminishing involvement in their scripts and Lewis's ego got the best of them, leading to their eventual breakup in 1956. ~ Cub Koda, Rovi
