Biography
Helen Gross recorded 27 tracks for Ajax Records in New York City between May 1924 and March 1925, working with some of the best jazz players of the day. Not a blues singer in the classic sense, she worked from more of a vaudeville perspective, and her recordings feature -- in addition to some wonderful horn charts -- a preponderance of often baffling noise effects, which at times gives her songs the feel of a carnival sideshow. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
