Originally from the Eastern German state of Saxony, Fiedler began writing songs on her grandmother's piano as a child, counting the Eurythmics as a primary influence. She discovered the independent music scene when she moved to Halle for school, and began attending parties in abandoned buildings and other underground venues. She began singing and playing in punk rock and electropop bands, as well as DJ'ing '80s synth pop and minimal wave records. Fiedler moved to Berlin in 2010, and began making dance music as Perel in 2012. Her debut single, "BodyTalk," a hip-house flashback featuring Abba Lang, was released by the Leipzig-based label O*RS in 2014. Perel soon became a regular DJ at several clubs throughout Germany, and additional singles "Amin" and "Charles Manson" followed in 2016. She signed to DFA in 2017, debuting with "Die Dimension," a dark space-disco single with cold, austere vocals. This set the stage for Perel's 2018 full-length debut, Hermetica, which fused post-punk guitars with cosmic disco suspense. The CD edition featured remixes by Jayda G and Massimiliano Pagliara.
Perel guested on Curses' Gold Silber EP, then released Karlsson on Uncanny Valley in 2019. Running Back issued her Star EP in 2021. The following year, Perel released her second album, Jesus Was an Alien, on Kompakt. Its title track featured guest vocalist Marie Davidson. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
