Biography
Over one hundred symphonies are accredited to Pokorny but there were a number of musicians by that name in the vicinity of Regensburg. Franz X. studied with Riepel after which he went into the service of Count Philipp Karl and continued studies with Stamitz. It was not until 1766, however, that he was able to obtain a position as a Kapelle in Regensburg. Most of the symphonic music that Pokorny scored was in four movements and arranged for an ensemble containing strings, two flutes, two horns, and occasional other instruments. Most of the music contains little actual development but the symphonies are a rich source of popular themes. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
