Mark Leeman
April 24, 1941 - June 27, 1965 (age 24)
Biography
The Mark Leeman Five attracted a fair amount of attention on the British RB circuit during the mid-'60s, but their career was cut short by the death of singer Leeman in 1965. Despite the patronage of the Manfred Mann group (who produced several of Leeman's sessions), Leeman was an average singer at best, leagues below such peers as Manfred Mann's own Paul Jones. The group managed a respectable but not earth-shaking RB sound, sticking mostly to well-tested chestnuts like Green Onions and Got My Mojo Working. The original incarnation of the group only released a couple singles, though much unissued material was eventually unearthed. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
