Though she was a sang and wrote songs as a child, Linda J. Albertano gave it up to try spoken-word readings. Using her BFA in filmmaking from UCLA, she began staging elaborate intermedia performances around Los Angeles and, at the same time, gained local fame for her poetry readings.
