Biography
Fulton Street was founded in the early 1970's by pianist Bob Ringwald who is probably destined to be best-known as actress Mollie Ringwald's father! A fine pianist (who later on would also develop as a banjoist and a singer), Ringwald put together the trad jazz band which was originally based in Sacramento and performed around northern California in addition to traveling to jazz festivals. Among its early sidemen were cornetist Ernie Carson and trombonist Rex Allen; they were among the ensemble's most notable players on their first two recordings, albums for the Sacramento Jazz label. Eventually Ringwald left the group and relocated to Los Angeles. Fulton Street has remained a popular attraction, with the 1992 edition of the band featuring pianist Bob Hirsch and a frontline of trumpeter Dean Nelson, trombonist John Landes and clarinetist Bob Newman. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
