Introduced to music at an early age by her uncles who played jazz in an organ trio, Kim Prevost has emerged as one of the Crescent City's leading jazz and blues divas. She sung in her church choir, performing duets with the pastor, her father. At college, she studied dance and modeled. Prevost performed in musical comedy, with roles in Sweet Charity and Dreamgirls, as well as in a Cole Porter review under the direction of Allen Toussaint. Prevost has worked with George Howard, Bill Summers and the Walter Payton Trio.

Now linked with New Orleans guitar master Bill Solley, they won the B.E.T. Jazz Discovery national competition in 1999. In April of the same year, they released their first album, I Would Give all My Love, a mixture of standards, funk and blues where, with her Sarah Vaughan-like range, she swoops, scats and bends the words.

Prevost listened to Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday as she shaped her own style which materialized as a crackling mixture of jazz, blues, funk and R&B - tinged gospel. She and Solley continue to perform regularly at New Orleans jazz venues with a steady gig at the Chateau Sonesta Hotel. ~ Dave Nathan, Rovi
