Biography
Electronic dance outfit Krewella have a boisterous style that draws upon numerous subgenres, including dubstep, hardstyle, progressive house, and trap. Formed as a trio in the late 2000s, they became a duo shortly after the release of their debut, Get Wet (2013), and continued their party-loving mission with live shows, guest appearances, and singles and EPs like 2016's Ammunition. In 2020, they issued their official sophomore set, Zer0, and The Body Never Lies followed in 2022.

The group was formed by sisters Jahan Yousaf and Yasmine Yousaf in Northbrook, Illinois, a small town north of Chicago. They got together in 2007 -- originally featuring Kris Trindl -- but didn't release their first material until 2011, when they uploaded a handful of songs, including the jagged and celebratory "Life of the Party." In 2012, the band self-released their first two EPs: Play Hard (June), featuring the reggae-flavored "Killin It," and Play Harder (December). The former reached number ten on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. The same year, Krewella became a staple of the festival circuit, including New York's Electric Zoo and Texas' Meltdown.

The trio issued their first proper album, the bombastic Get Wet, in 2013. It hit the Top Ten of the Billboard 200 and birthed several singles and videos, including "Live for the Night," which topped the Hot Dance Club Play chart, and the Top 40 pop hit "Alive." In September 2014, Trindl parted ways with the group and the Yousaf sisters released "Say Goodbye," recorded in response to the split, two months later. During the resulting year-long legal tussle between the two parties, the duo continued to release music, including the Pegboard Nerds-produced "Somewhere to Run" and an appearance on the star-studded "Love Song to the Earth" single.

In 2016, the Yousafs were featured on the Pegboard Nerds and NGHTMRE collaboration "Superstar" and continued to tease fans with new tracks performed during their live sets. A Krewella EP, Ammunition, followed that May and debuted at number two on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. Early 2017 saw the release of a trio of singles, "Team," "Be There," and "Love Outta Me," which all landed on their EP New World, Pt. 1 that June. Although a sequel was planned and singles continued to roll out, the duo ended up producing a full album. Zer0 was released in early 2020 and featured appearances by Nucleya, Arrested Youth, Asim Azhar, and more. After their Zer0 tour was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Krewella performed virtual concerts throughout 2020, and released singles with Nervo and Yellow Claw. The Body Never Lies, the duo's third album, arrived in 2022, containing tracks with BEAUZ and MADGRRL. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
