Biography
No One and the Somebodies are an experimental noise-punk group from Hawthorne, New York, consisting of brothers Brian, Steve, Kevin, and Bobby Yankou. Influenced by a large array of post-punk, no wave, indie folk, and avant-garde musicians, their music is highly complex, switching from chaotic to melodic sections on a dime, but it always maintains a high energy level, and sounds aggressive without being angry. Nearly all of the group's songs are co-written by the bandmembers together, and they all contribute vocals and switch instruments, including drums, bass, guitar, and keyboard. While their recordings have been sporadic, they have been a constant presence on the D.I.Y. music scene, and have shared bills with Frankie Cosmos, King Missile, Schwervon!, Hermit Thrushes, and many others. Three of the group's members also play with Old Table's William Moloney in a side band called Turbosleaze.
Following their 2002 demo, NOatS' debut full-length, Pretend You're Out of Control, was released by BC Records in 2004. This was followed by 2007's Suspicious Package on Tapeworm Records. Five years later, third album Numbers was released by Single Girl Married Girl. In 2015, the band's split album with Palberta, Chips for Dinner, was released on cassette by Underdog Pop Records. Wharf Cat reissued it on vinyl in 2017. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
