Diva
from Los Angeles, CA
Biography
Diva is the solo project of Los Angeles' Diva Dompe, formerly of the bands BlackBlack, which also featured her sister Lola and Phantom Planet's Alex Greenwald, and Pocahaunted, which also included Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno. Dompe, also a member of the L.A. Ladies Choir, struck out on her own in 2010, releasing her debut album, The Glitter End, on cassette late that year. Mixing Pocahaunted-like spacy atmospheres with touches of gamelan, Afro-pop, and electro, the album drew acclaim and earned a wider release in 2011, appearing on the Critical Heights imprint in August of that year. She followed it with 2012's Moon Moods, a more eclectic set that incorporated doo wop, chillwave, and goth-disco into her repertoire. Dompe also released guided meditations on her Bandcamp page and via Leaving Records. Her third pop album, Divinity in Thee, arrived in 2015 via Peanut Butter Wolf's Circle Star Records imprint. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
