Biography
The co-founder of the collecting rights agency SBACEN, composer, writer, and journalist Nestor de Hollanda Cavalcanti Neto, father of classical and popular composer Nestor de Hollanda Cavalcanti, wrote an appreciable quantity of compositions, like the march O Periquito da Madame (with Carvalhinho/Afonso Teixeira), recorded by Quatro Ases e Um Coringa in November 1946, and the samba-canção Quem Foi? (with Jorge Tavares), recorded by Aracy de Almeida in 1947. Among his creations that can also be mentioned are Xém-Ém-Ém (with Geraldo Medeiros in 1945 and included on the soundtrack to a Walt Disney film), Balance Eu (with Luiz Gonzaga), Dança Chinesa (with Haroldo Lôbo, 1952), Ele Já Voltou (with Fernando Lôbo, 1950), Eu Sei Que Ele Chora (with Ismael Neto, 1951), Fala Pierrô (with Levino Ferreira, 1940), Já É Noite (with Paulo Soledade/Fernando Lôbo, 1950), Muito agradecido (with Lúcio Alves, 1959), Vou procurar outro bem (with Ary Barroso, 1956), Meu Mundo é Você, Último Beijo, Muito Agradecido, Seu Nome Não é Maria, and Eu Sei Que Ele Chora. Cavalcanti's books are amongst the best-selling in Brazil, having been translated to several other languages. His most important works are -Diálogo Brasil -- URSS, -O Mundo Vermelho, -Sossego, -Rua da Revolução, -Jangadeiros, -A Ignorância ao Alcance de Todos, -Itinerário da Paisagem Carioca. The latter brought him the title of Carioca Citizen, granted by the legislative assembly of the then-Guanabara State (currently Rio de Janeiro). Having already lost his father, Cavalcanti moved with his mother and siblings to Recife in 1929. At a young age, he started to write for local newspapers and also wrote several comedies for theater. In 1941, he moved to Rio de Janeiro where he contributed to the magazines A Cena Muda, Revista da Semana, Brasilidade; and to radio stations Vera Cruz, Transmissora, and Educadora. After the war, in which he served as a sergeant, he worked for several major newspapers like O Imparcial, A Noite, Diário Carioca, and Última Hora; magazines like Manchete, A Noite Ilustrada, Carioca; radio stations such as Rádio Clube Fluminense, Rádio Cruzeiro do Sul, Rádio Clube do Brasil, Rádio Globo, Rádio Nacional, and Rádio Ministério da Educação e Cultura; and TV stations like Continental, Excelsior, and Rio.
