Cheyenne Mize
from Louisville, KY
Biography
Louisville, Kentucky-based singer/songwriter Cheyenne Marie Mize crafts intelligent, atmospheric, soul-stirring indie folk music in the vein of Alela Diane, Bon Iver, and Cat Power. Raised in a musical household, she took up the violin in high school, studied music at the University of Louisville, and eventually became a music therapist. She has worked with Will Oldham (Bonnie Prince Billy), with whom she collaborated on an EP of folk songs from the late 1800s; she was also part of Maiden Radio with Joan Shelley and Julia Purcel for their self-titled album of cover songs by (mostly unknown) composers that same year. Mize’s debut, Before Lately, arrived in October 2010 and was followed by the digital single "I Called You Back" in 2011. Her EP, We Don't Need, was issued in January of 2011. In 2012, Mize signed to Yep Roc. Her first offering for the label, Among the Grey, was released in the early summer of 2013. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
