Biography
Founding member of New York techno-punks Gang Gang Dance, Brian DeGraw cut his teeth early on playing in angular punk bands in the Washington, D.C. scene in the late '90s. Before relocating to New York and helping to found Gang Gang Dance in 2001, DeGraw played in bands like the Cranium and eventually linked up with SSAB Songs, an experimental music ensemble led by film director Harmony Korine. In addition to sculpting a great deal of the electronic textures and rhythmic elements for Gang Gang Dance, DeGraw would often DJ, collaborate with other musicians, or lend his talents in the form of doing remixes for artists such as Battles, Tempers, and Animal Collective. In 2013, DeGraw took on the moniker bEEdEEgEE, an elongated monogram of his initials, and released his first proper solo album, Sum/One, on 4AD, the label that had also previously released several Gang Gang Dance albums. The album featured guest vocal appearances from members of Hot Chip, CSS, and others, and DeGraw toured in support of the album as an opening act for Animal Collective shows in the early winter of 2013. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
