Biography
Self-described as "music for telepathic amphibians," Orlando is a London-based project which combines influences ranging from vintage electronic pop and library music to cosmic space disco. Orlando began as a solo venture for Cathy Lucas, who had previously been a member of Fanfarlo and My Sad Captains. Adopting her moniker from a Virginia Woolf novel, she began releasing her spacy, abstract electronic pop tunes on her own Ram Tapes in 2014, beginning with a split cassette with Tom Furse titled Earth Moon Earth Other Round Trips. By early 2015, Orlando had blossomed into a live band, playing shows around London. Play Time: Music for Video Games, a split tape with Tomaga, appeared in March, and the group began to receive radio airplay. Orlando opened for Wire, Laetitia Sadier (formerly of Stereolab), Lilies on Mars, and numerous other artists. The group finished recording their full-length debut album in November, slating it for release in early 2016. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
