Petronio Franceschini
January 1, 1650 - December 18, 1680 (age 30)
Biography
A student of both Perti and Corsi (he later taught Giacomo Perti, Lorenzo Perti's nephew who became an accomplished operatic composer) Petronio was one of the first members to join the Bolognese Philharmonic Academy. He was known for his operas early and acceded to the position of cellist at Bologna Cathedral (1680). Franceschini's operas employed a trumpet-tenor dialogue quite often and were rife with lively tempos. Compositions also included sonatas -- one for trumpets -- masses, motets, psalms and cantatas. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
