Biography
Nelson Trigueiro became a composer at 17, with "Morena Sem Rival" debuting in radio on December 8, 1934, with Odete Amaral singing "Minha Guanabara" in the Rádio Guanabara show Horas Cariocas. Carmen Barbosa recorded his songs for the first time, in 1938, with "História Triste" and "Quero Sorrir... Qero Mentir." In 1939, he wrote "Eu Vim lhe Procurar" and "Deve Ser Amor" for the carnival of that year, recorded respectively by Araci de Almeida and J. B. de Carvalho. Carmen Barbosa had a hit in the same year with "Adeus Favela" (with Paulo Pinheiro). Dulce Malheiros recorded "Meus Três Namorados" in 1940. In 1941, Ciro Monteiro recorded the march "Morena Brasileira" (with Miguel Lima). He formed the Quinteto Copacabana in 1946, with Oscar Belandi, Joab Teixeira, Valter Pacheco, and Itamar de Oliveira, which opened at the Programa Casé (Radio Mayrink Veiga), moving then to Rádio Globo and recording an album for labels Rio, Copacabana, and Ritmo. In 1947, he founded the publishing house Edições Musicais Samba, sold later to the composer Fernando César. In 1948, while in the rehearsal room, he wrote the song that he believed to be his best, "Meu Rio de Janeiro," for Dick Farney. In 1949, he wrote some songs as a singer, including "Saudades de Mangueira" and "Nós, Os Bigodinhos." In 1954, he founded the label Ritmo and abandoned the group, which continued its activities as Quarteto Copacabana. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
