Robin Hannibal
from Copenhagen, Denmark
Biography
A quietly busy, restlessly creative multi-instrumentalist and producer across the 2000s and early 2010s, Robin Hannibal -- a native of Copenhagen, Denmark -- has been a driving force behind the group Boom Clap Bachelors, as well as the duos Parallel Dance Ensemble, Owusu Hannibal, and Quadron. Depending on the track, Hannibal’s productions can be categorized as abstract hip-hop or R&B, downbeat electronic, left-field house, retro soul, and, occasionally, more than one of those at once. Most of them feature a lilting melody of some sort, whether voiced by frequent collaborator Jessica Hansell (aka Coco Malaika, Coco O.) or himself. It wasn’t until 2011 that Hannibal released his first solo material, a five-track EP titled Bobby, through the Plug Research label. With the exception of drums on one track and piano on another, he played every instrument, in addition to writing, arranging, and producing the whole set. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
