Bassist Nino Del Pesco became a regular presence on the Los Angeles roots rock scene. He started his career in 1977 with a group called the Puppies, who were discovered by Kim Fowley and issued the single Mechanical Beat on Stiff America, produced by Liam Sternberg. He spent 1980-1981 playing with Beat Farmers forerunners Country Dick the Snugglebunnies, then moved on to High Noon before settling in with acclaimed roots rockers the Lonesome Strangers until 1987. After playing on their well-received debut, Lonesome Pine, he left to form Snakefarm with Barry McBride, where he remained until 1988; then he switched to the Knights of the Living Dead who, with demos produced by Dave Jerden and Warren Zevon, nearly scored a deal with Capitol. He played with various bands from 1990-1991, including that of ex-Rockpile guitarist Billy Bremner, before temporarily leaving music to study psychology at UCLA (though he did return for one studio gig, Russ Tolman's 1994 album Sweet Spot). Returning to music in 1997, he co-founded, although never played on the recordings of the Antiproduct, which morphed into the Eddie Reuter Experience in 1999, and evolved once again into the Black Tongued Bells in 2001. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
