Growing up in Somerset, England, Askew briefly took guitar lessons but preferred learning through trial and error on his own. In an isolated community without much in the way of venues, when he began writing songs as a preteen, he posted some of them on social media, along with various covers. Also competing in area youth music competitions, he slowly gained a following over the next several years and started performing at open mikes in London. Incorporating influence from alt-R&B, indie rock, pop, emo-rap, and more into his songs, by his late teens, he began hearing from record labels. Askew was the featured vocalist on Lost Kings' "Feather" in 2019, and in 2020, Polydor released his label debut, "Roses," a song he had recorded at home on GarageBand with "my £20 microphone" when he was 16. As a 19-year-old, the track was included on his debut EP, Peach, released on Polydor in early 2021. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
