David Sugar
from London, England
Biography
An indie electronic dance-pop producer from London, England, David E. Sugar released a variety of underground material, much of it online, before jumping to the trendsetting French label Kitsuné Music in 2007. Sugar, who both produces and sings his music, first began to make a name for himself with Fresh Off the Chip (2006), a six-track freely downloadable MP3 release on 8bitpeoples. Also in 2006, he released the Coin-Op Rocker and David E. Sugar vs. Ears 12" EPs on C Side Trax and Brikabrak, respectively. In 2007 Sugar released the Oi New York, This Is London EP on Grecoroman; remixed a few tracks (the Rumble Strips' "Girls & Boys in Love," Big Face's "I Wanna Be a Style Crusader," Lo Fidelity Allstars' "Blisters on My Brain" -- not to mention unofficial remixes such as the Klaxons' "Golden Skans"); and saw his track "To Yourself" released on Kitsuné Maison Compilation 5. His affiliation with the Kitsuné Music label continued in 2008 with the To Yourself 12" single and a slot on the label's Kitsuné Maison Tour with Digitalism. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
