Born and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts, Rochinski learned to play guitar at age 13 from her father, jazz guitarist, composer, arranger, and Berklee faculty member Steve Rochinski. A few years later, she started going to DIY shows in the area, but also loved the music of Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Robyn, and the Spice Girls. In the late 2000s, Rochinski connected with Shane Butler and Taylor McVay, and the trio formed the band Quilt while attending Boston's School of the Museum of Fine Arts. The group released three acclaimed albums of folky psych-pop: 2011's Quilt, 2014's Held in Splendor, and 2016's Plaza. By 2018, she had begun work on her first solo album, which she recorded with Ava Luna's Carlos Hernandez and Julian Fader. Reflecting the end of her long-term relationship and her move to New York City as well as the influence of Can, Beck, and her childhood pop favorites, Cherry appeared on Don Giovanni Records in March 2021. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
