XTRMST are a straight-edge hardcore band formed in 2012 by AFI lead vocalist Davey Havok and guitarist Jade Puget. Both musicians were drawn to the straight-edge lifestyle and music scene as teenagers and have adhered to the subculture's resolute philosophies of clean living (drug and alcohol free, veganism, etc.) throughout their adult lives. The two began recording together at Puget's home studio in Los Angeles in 2012, eventually choosing the name XTRMST (pronounced Extremist) to represent the rigid straight-edge doctrines and the messages in the music they were writing.
