Peter Hasse
January 1, 1585 - June 1, 1640 (age 55)
Biography
Peter was the patriarch of the Lubeck house of the Hasse's. He was a composer and an organist who wrote masses, motets, organ variations and preludes. It is thought that he was probably a student of Sweelinck. Hasse maintained a position as the organist for the Marienkirche from at least 1616 until his death. The variations which he composed were based on "Allein Gott in der Hoh sei Ehr." They demonstrate the use of a chorale melody as a cantus firmus attended by different contrapuntal elements. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
