Nicholas Charles Bochsa
August 9, 1789 - January 6, 1856 (age 66)
Biography
Bochsa was a French harpist who composed predominantly for that instrument. His playing technique was innovative, imaginative and in the process discovered new effects. Boscha had the ability to play any instrument with great facility; it is a wonder that he developed a business in forged manuscripts which brought him into dire straights with the authorities. Having run from France to England, and gaining favor with the English nobility, he once again found himself in trouble with the English courts for indebtedness. He then toured with the Bishops, Henry and Anna, eventually running off with Anna. His compositions for the harp clearly advanced the instrument beyond its heretofore mean. Boscha is considered to be one of he most prolific composers for the harp. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
