Biography
With a membership taken from equal parts L.A. blues-punk duo Deap Vally and alternative pop weirdo legends the Flaming Lips, the collaborative Deap Lips pushed both acts' sonic personalities into overpoweringly colorful new places. The band announced their formation and offered the public several singles before the release of their self-titled debut album.
In May of 2019, Flaming Lips leader Wayne Coyne hinted on social media that there might be a collaboration with L.A.'s Deap Vally. In December of that year, it was announced that Coyne and Flaming Lips' multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd would be joining Deap Vally guitarist/vocalist Lindsey Troy and drummer/vocalist Julie Edwards to form a supergroup of sorts. Deap Lips' first single, "Hope Hell High," was released at the time of this announcement and was followed shortly thereafter by second single "Home Thru Hell." Third single "Motherf*ckers Got to Go" showed up in late February, just ahead of the group's self-titled, ten-song debut, which was slated for a March 2020 release date. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
