Biography
Max Bulhões, son of the pianeiro (popular pianists of Rio de Janeiro's Belle Époque) J. Bulhões, debuted in 1935 with the samba Promessa (written with Jaime Vogeler), recorded by his partner. Composer of the hits Não Tenho Lágrimas (with Milton de Oliveira), a Carnaval classic of 1937 (re-recorded by Nat King Cole on his 1959 LP A Mis Amigos as Come to Mardi Gras, and by many other interpreters), and Sabiá-Laranjeira (with Milton de Oliveira), Bulhões had his Quero Evitar (with Wilson Batista) recorded in the same year by Vogeler; while Sabiá-Laranjeira was recorded by Patrício Teixeira (who also recorded Não Tenho Lágrimas). Also in 1937, his batuque Vem Baianinha (with Constantino Silva) and his samba Só Um Novo Amor were recorded by J.B. de Carvalho. In 1941, his sambas Pode Implorar and Procurei (with Milton de Oliveira) and Eu Não (with Henrique de Almeida) were recorded by Linda Batista. Bulhões also had songs recorded by Francisco Alves, but abandoned his artistic career to devote himself to his job at the administration of the harbor of Rio de Janeiro. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
