Biography
Jazz trumpeter Bob Montgomery has received accolades for his musicianship as well as numerous awards for his educational leadership, which spans more than three decades. In 1970, he was honored as Teacher of the Year. During the early '80s, he earned the title of Kansas Jazz Educator & Performer of the Year. In 1990, he was the International Association of Jazz Educators' (IAJE) Colorado Jazz Educator of the Year. Montgomery held the office of president for the IAJE's Colorado and Kansas chapters. His jazz performances have taken him to all corners of the world and to the stages of numerous festivals. He also serves as the director of both Rich Mattison's Mile High Jazz Camp and Clark Terry's All American Jazz Camp, which he also founded. Other positions held by Montgomery include the Colorado Jazz Workshop's executive directorship, and a spot on the Colorado Gift of Jazz's board of directors. He founded and directed the jazz studies program at Kansas' Emporia State University. He also is an International Foundation for Jazz trustee.
