Big French
from New York, NY
Biography
Big French is a New York City-based lo-fi experimental rock group fronted by the unusually high-voiced Quentin Moore. The group's short, knotty songs recall post-punk, prog, and no wave influences, but don't fit into any easy categories. In addition to Moore, who sings, plays guitar, and writes the group's songs, Big French includes synthesizer player Zach Phillips (Blanche Blanche Blanche), drummer Jo Miller-Gamble, bassist Adam Steck, and guitarist Colin White. The group made its debut with the 2011 7" On Your Fam-il-y, which was one of the first releases by Brooklyn-based Wharf Cat Records. The full-length Downtown Runnin appeared on the label in 2013, and the cassette EP Would Not Try/Atlanta was released by Phillips' OSR Tapes soon after. Big French started recording their complex and more ambitious second album, Stone Fish, at Phillips' Manual FX Studio in Brooklyn in 2015, and it was released by Wharf Cat in 2017. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
