Prabir Mehta
from Richmond, VA
January 1, 1980 (age 44)
Biography
A disciple of Brian Wilson, Ben Folds, and other pop craftsmen, singer/songwriter Prabir Mehta first entered the close-knit music scene of Richmond, VA, as the frontman of the ska outfit Murfreesboro. Years of local gigs expanded the band's following at home, but Murfreesboro gradually disbanded as several bandmates left Richmond to attend college elsewhere. Mehta resurfaced with a new group, the Rachel Nevadas, while simultaneously releasing material as a solo artist. By the early 2000s, however, his musical tastes had shifted. Now focusing on a blend of classic pop and rambunctious rock & roll, Mehta pieced together Prabir the Substitutes in 2005, releasing several albums (including the underground power pop gems Share and Five Little Pieces) in the subsequent years. ~ Andrew Leahey, Rovi
