The CrossRhodes
from Washington, D.C.
Biography
The CrossRhodes is a sociopolitical-minded collaboration between Grammy-nominated R&B singer/songwriter Raheem DeVaughn and actor/poet/rapper Wes Felton (aka W. Ellington Felton and Dub Ell). Washington, D.C. natives, DeVaughn and Felton are sons of jazz musicians, respectively cellist Abdul Wadud and pianist Hilton Felton. Apart from their individual activities, the duo recorded a series of independently issued releases during the early 2000s, including Limited Budget Unlimited Quality, and summarized their output on the 2010 compilation Been There Done That. Years later, inspired by a new wave of activism including Black Lives Matter, DeVaughn and Felton reactivated the CrossRhodes with the August 2016 single "Footprints on the Moon," then issued a fiery BMG-supported album of the same title the following September. Rapsody, Scarface, Talib Kweli, and Timothy Bloom contributed to a set that aimed to uplift and empower (with occasional romantic diversions). ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
