Philly musician Mike Polizze toned down the ragged fuzz rock of his long-running Purling Hiss project when he decided to go solo. Instead of the grunge-informed loudness he was known for, Polizze offered up a mellow set of acoustic folk-rock on his 2020 solo debut, Long Lost Solace Find.

Polizze moved from Media, Pennsylvania, to Philadelphia in 2004 and promptly started the band Birds of Maya. Several years later, he started Purling Hiss as a far noisier solo project, eventually taking it from grainy home-recorded albums to a full-fledged touring band with records on Drag City. Between 2009 and 2016, Polizze played with both groups and sometimes contributed guitar to friends' projects or one-off experiments. His 2020 album Long Lost Solace Find was his first to be released under his given name, and the largely acoustic set featured contributions from his longtime friend Kurt Vile.
