Biography
Gerry Conway was born in the U.K. in 1947. He began playing drums at an early age. By 1964, he was working with Alexis Korner. After a year with him, he became the drummer of Eclection. His next move was playing with the band Fotheringay. Interestingly enough, the rhythm section for that band, including Conway, was hired by Cat Stevens. This affiliation continued as Conway became Stevens' permanent drummer. He remained with him until Stevens' retirement in 1975. He wound up hooking up with Jethro Tull in the early '80s, and that is a connection that has surfaced frequently over the years. He was a member of the group until 1982, but has made appearances with them at various times. He is also the drummer for Fairport Convention. ~ Gary Hill, Rovi
