Darcy James Argue
Biography
Darcy James Argue is a Brooklyn-based jazz composer and bandleader. He is best known for his work with his 18-piece Secret Society ensemble, which combines big-band jazz, post-rock, and classical minimalism. Argue was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1975. He moved to the United States in 2000 and studied under jazz composer Bob Brookmeyer at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He moved to Brooklyn in 2003 and formed Secret Society in 2005. The group's debut album, Infernal Machines, came out in 2009; it received a Grammy nomination for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album and a Juno nomination for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year. In 2016, Secret Society released their third album, Real Enemies, which also earned a Grammy nomination and hit number 21 on Billboard's Jazz Albums chart. ~ Benjamin Schulz, Rovi
