Kathrin deBoer
from Sydney, Australia
Biography
Hailing from Sydney, Australia, alternative pop singer/songwriter Kathrin deBoer has experimented with elements of soul, electronica, and techno. She made her first appearance on the live music scene in London, U.K., after forming the electro-soul outfit Belleruche with DJ Modest and Ricky Fabulous in 2005. DeBoer and the group put out a series of limited-edition 7" releases via their own Hippoflex Records label before signing to Brighton-based Tru Thoughts Records in 2007. The label put out their debut full-length, Turntable Soul Music, later that year. Belleruche released a further three albums and an EP via Tru Thoughts -- ending with 2012's Rollerchain -- before they disbanded in 2013. DeBoer went on to pursue her own musical ideas, and released her first solo effort, a stripped-back, melancholy release titled EP1, consisting of mostly acoustic bass, ghostly vocals, and introspective lyrics, via Gearbox Records in 2014. She also collaborated with electronic producer Max Cooper on several of his compositions, including the 2016 track "Trust," as well as other electronic artists such as Bonobo in 2009 and SBTRKT in 2015. ~ Rob Wacey, Rovi
